WERE THE BABIES SWITCHED?

Activity No. ___
WERE THE BABIES SWITCHED?
Scenario:
Two couples had babies in the same hospital at the same time. Alvira and Amante had twins, a boy named Christian, and a girl, Clara. Susan and Garry had a girl, Mara. Alvira convinced that there had been a mix-up and she had the wrong girl, since Christian and Mara were both light-skinned, while Clara had darker skin. Alvira insisted on taking blood type tests for both families to check whether there had been a mix-up. In order to interpret the results of the blood type tests, you will need to understand the basic biology of blood types.

1. Evaluate whether Alvira and Amante’s baby girl was switched with Susan and Garry’s baby girl. The following family tree shows the blood types for both families.
.2. Additional questions will be given during the class. LBL

5. One of the SpongeBob’s cousins, SpongeBillyBob, recently met a cute squarepants gal, SpongeGerdy, at a local dance and fell in love. Use your knowledge of genetics to answer the questions below.

a. If SpongeGerdy’s father is a heterozygous squarepants and her mother is a

roundpants, what is her genotype? Complete the Punnett square to show the possible genotypes that would result to help you determine Gerdy’s genotype. What is Gerdy’s genotype?

b. SpongebillyBob is heterozygous for his squarepants shape. What Is his genotype?

c. Complete the Punnett square to show the possibilities that would result if Billy Bob & Gerdy had children.

d. List the possible genotypes and phenotypes for the kids.

e. What is the probability of kids with squarepants?

f. What is the probability of the kids with roundpants?
